Sally Bell, mother of late Australian actor Heath Ledger, has promised that his posthumous Golden Globe award would go to his daughter, Matilda. "It will belong to her because she is part of him," Bell told Who magazine in an interview published on Wednesday.

"It is such a fantastic and wonderful legacy for his daughter. Matilda will have so many people who will be able to speak to her about her father's abilities and the respect he had in the industry," she said in the west coast Australian city of Perth.

Ledger, who was 28 when he died of an accidental prescription drug overdose a year ago in New York, won the award for his role as the Joker in the Batman sequel The Dark Knight.

The win firms Ledger's chances of also picking up an Oscar for best supporting actor.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Ledger's family would make no claim on his million-dollar estate. "There is no claim," father Kim Ledger was reported as saying in September. "Our family has gifted everything to Matilda."

The Brokeback Mountain star fathered Matilda, 4, with Michelle Williams, whom Ledger met on the set of the hit gay-cowboy film. Williams separated from Ledger before his death.
