Prithvi's back and in its 31st year. Three decades on and Mumbai's most popular theatre fest is ready to make the stage come alive with 18 highly-acclaimed plays showing from this weekend on over a span of 13 eventful evenings.

"This time we are bringing down shows from across the country, that means more focus on regional theatre. There are three specific groups we have picked from for the shows," said Sanjana Kapoor, Founder, Prithvi Theatre.

It is appropriately a mixed bag serving up offerings from across the country you can catch Adishakti from Pondicherry, Ninasam of Karnataka Nirman Kala Manch from Bihar or catch the new talent like in the Elephant Project by a Kerala director featuring a Japanese actor.

The themes and tales are as varied ranging from betrayal and infidelity to the one where humans become Rhinoceros.

"We may have seen these groups individually, but the energy and the local flavours that they bring to a festival is amazing. Especially for a wide audience like ours that's not filled with grey heads only," said Sanjana Kapoor.

"This is the first time I have directed a play and to be able to find space to perform before a Mumbai audience is a dream come true," said Jeet Taiyal, director, Opera Noir.

And inevitable highlight, a tribute to the creative genius Habib Tanvir, as the festival kickstarts with his legendary production Charandas Chor.

So, block your dates from November 7th to 20th. The Prithvi festival this year spans itself across to the Hornimon Circle and Matunga apart from this home venue, just so that you can witness some of India's most magnificient theatre productions.
