Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp is set to be honoured with the Career Achievement Award at this year's Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) in Nassau for his contribution to cinema.

As per reports, the festival is set to take place from December 10 to 17 and will see it's patron, the original Bond star Sean Connery hand over the prize to Depp.

"There is no actor better suited to receive BIFF's highest honour, the Career Achievement Award. Johnny Depp is one of the finest actors of our generation and is, simply put, an icon. We're all tremendously excited to bestow him with this honour and celebrate his incomparable career," BIFF founder Leslie Vanderpool said.

The Career Achievement Award was set up to recognise actors whose body of work has had a profound impact on cinema and has previously been bestowed on stars including Nicolas Cage, Daryl Hannah and Laurence Fishburne.

"What makes this tribute to Johnny even more special is that he has a home in the Bahamas and possesses a true love and appreciation for the region and culture. This will be an amazing and magical event for everyone involved," Vanderpool added.
