Kidnap
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Minissha Lamba, Imran Khan and Vidya
Director: Sanjay Gadhavi
Writer: kidnapmovie

The world's richest man's daughter gets kidnapped. So what does he do? Among other things, he says: "Maine apne assistant ko bola hai ki mere dushmano ki list bana le". This is only one of the many spectacularly dim-witted moments in Sanjay Ghadvi's thriller Kidnap.

My other favourite is a scene in which Sonia, played by Minissha Lamba, tells her kidnaper Kabir, played by Imran Khan, that she really needs a bath. They don't have enough water so he takes her to the beach where she proceeds to do a sensuous dance in a transparent white tunic and sings, and I'm not kidding here, a song that goes: Mausam yeh awesome bada.

Of course, despite being in captivity, Sonia has a ready wardrobe of skimpy clothes just right for these special occasions.

Shibani Bhatija's script, about a young man who seeks revenge on a rich businessman by kidnapping his daughter, probably sounded good on paper. On screen, it is undiluted comedy. Ghadvi starts smartly setting up the back-story in the title sequence itself but then we cut straight to an item song which, I assume, was supposed to establish how carefree and cool Sonia is.

More than anything, she's miscast. Minissha is supposed to be 17 years old year and if that isn't enough of a howler, her mother is played by Vidya Malvade, who looks more like her older sister. What's worse is that Malvade spends most of the screen time trying to out-do Minissha with carefully arranged glimpses of cleavage. She seems barely traumatised by her daughter's kidnapping though we are told that she is coping by visiting the Siddhi Vinayak Temple.

For reasons that are never quite clear, the parents divorced when Sonia was a child. But they are forced to re-unite when their daughter is kidnapped and instead of a ransom, the kidnapper only demands that the father,
Vikrant Raina, played by a paunchy Sanjay Dutt, perform a series of tasks. Raina is an Indian Bill Gates. He is the world's richest man with a net worth of 51.7 billion dollars but the press or police never get a whiff of his actions even when he is stealing a bag of money or helping a prisoner escape by, believe it or not, disguising himself as a fireman. What can actors do with material like this?

Dutt looks bored. Imran scowls and tries to bring conviction to his role but the silliness of this enterprise is insurmountable.

See Kidnap only if, after Jaane Tu ya Jaane Na, you need to get another Imran fix. Or if you want a good laugh!

Here's my review of the movie... "Kidnappy"! Cast : Stunjay Dirt, Dimran Corn, Vidya Malady, Manyeccha Lambda Ok... so here's the story... this little kid from an orphanage "steals" a car belonging to a rich businessman to take a friend of his to a hospital... his friend just fell down from a ladder and ankle bleeds with ketchup! So the rich bman has him sent to a remand home where the kid is naturally ill treated... so the kid grows up and so does the bman (horizontally), his daughter (vertically and horizontally), but not his wife... she looks the same over a period of 20 yrs or so ... and this kid kidnaps the bman's daughter... and takes her for a swim in the sea, under a waterfall, where she sings a song which goes... "glub... glub..." cos the camera was photographing her from under the water... while her dad plays cat and mouse games with this kid who is all groan up who kidnapped the dotter! so finally after much hoohah, the fat father finally gets the dotter and apologises to the kid who did the kidnapping... apologises to da wife for giving her a tough time thruout da movie... apologises to his dotter for whatever... then everyone apologises to each other for the bad acting, ridiculous dialogues, pathetic settings and an over-the top story! and then the kid napper apologises to the bman for kid-nappying the dotter... apologises to the dotter for doing the kid-nappying... and thru all this madness i wonder what crime have i committed that i am sitting and watching this so-called movie, and when are the producer, director, actors going to apologise to me for this mishmash!? But thank God for happy endings... the movie ended and i was happy! Rating : 2500 stars... thats the approx number of stars i saw till i went brain-dead somewhere in the first quarter of the movie.

Hi All, I guess Movie with aplot like Kidnap should have been sensible ..i mean a kidnapped girl who has all the advantage of wearing skimpy clothes ..showing cleavage ,,nminal makeup ( to show a seventeen year old kid ) ..bathing in a sea ...is so awful ..fail to understand the need to actually make such movies..A mother looking like a sis with the same anount of skin show was hilarious ...Reema Lagoo acting was not used ..Sanjay Dutt ...he seemed like a god ..he copuld do whatever the kidnapper wanted and the kidnapper is attracted to the girl ...Boss make movies with story and realism ..

The movie wasc seriously a disaster.Probably this is something which you cant expect from Sanjay Gadhvi,I mean after making such nice entertaining movies like DhoomI & Dhoom2 how can he deliever such idiotic stuff. Imran Khan again was extremely sad with the same expression in the entire movie& Sanju baba was dissapointing as well .

This is a really bad movie. I'm very dissappointed as my expectations were high given that the director made Dhoom 1 & 2. What a shame.

This was clear enough in the trailers itself! Gadhvi could not do enough with a rich Indian, so he had to have 'World's richest Indian!'. And please NDTV, could you guys become a little more careful with directors' names? 'Gadhvi' has been written as 'Ghadvi' and in the review of 'Drona', 'Behl' has been written as 'Bhel'!

Minisha should concentrate on her performance and not minimal clothing.Performance is what matters.

Kidnap is BADDD..I saw both Drona and Kidnap, I disliked Drona coz it was too slow and I had expected lots from Drona...but after Kidnap I think Drona is a masterpiece...atleast it had something new ,be it special effects or exotic locations... Kidnap ranks high with Tashan as 'GREAT' films of 2008 !!!

Its amazing to see how easily we try n copy stuff but without a vision.. some of the action scenes are copied from Casino ROyale n look at the execution.. I guess Film companies should try n have some sort of checks on a story/screenplay of a movie from a committe comprising of Farhan Akhthar, Aamir, Maniratnam, Gulzar, Javed Akhtar etc before starting a film.. Actually when u go n watch such a movie u feel so disgusted that why they come up with such products,, look at Minissa lamba n other lady,,, what non sense,, Guys lets try n be realistic

I completely agree with Anupama. "Kidnap" has neither style nor substance.Directors like Gadhvi should realise that cinema-goers have stopped appreciating inane ideas. That scene in which Dutt captures the secret code with his cell-phone camera seems to have been borrowed from some toddler's cartoon series. Gadhvi has a long way to go before he starts making gripping thriller movies. The movie was so unconvincing that even Imran Khan failed to impress.

And this was the Imran Khan performance that "reminded" Sanjay Gadhvi of Marlon Brando?! Brando will not only be turning in his grave, but also will be adding Gadhvi to his "dushmano ka list"
