He has played many roles on the big screen, but today Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan donned the quizmaster's hat, grilled management students and advised them to consider failure as being crucial to teach pragmatic lessons in life.

"Success imparts no wisdom, failure teaches you everything. Failure is very important. Fear of failure will make you pragmatic. It will make you logical in your thinking", he told a young audience at a quiz show here this evening.

Failure takes any form and it is the experience of failure that takes one's life forward, he added.

"Don't' worry, get things wrong and learn from it", he said at the quiz show where participants were questioned on varying subjects ranging from brands, marketing concepts to management
principles.

"Failure would always make you want to work hard", he said.

"I work hard because I am afraid of failure", said the actor, rated as one of the most popular film stars, at the show 'IIPM 4Ps', organised by business school Indian Institute of Planning and Management.

Citing his example, he recalled his early years of struggle, which inspired him to work harder. "I have seen a lot of poverty. I was scared of being poor. I don't like to be poor and it is this fear that makes me work hard. I don't let go any chance or opportunity to earn a living", he said.

Failure also taught one to empathise. Success instills a superiority complex, while failure teaches one to empathise with those who go through the same experience, he said.

"Respect failure. Accept failure and life will then be an easy thing to deal with", Shahrukh said, warning that merely dreaming of success would not help.

The superstar said he did not consider his parents very successful, but they ensured he got the right education and loved him dearly.

He said he found people narrating their success stories "very boring".

The event saw six teams with 12 participants taking part. The finalists, including international students, had been selected after several preliminary rounds.

The actor grilled the participants on varying subjects right from Cuban classic cars to brand names to newspaper reports to brands talked about in movies.

The show saw Shah Rukh mix entertainment with business, as in a lighter vein, he ripped off jackets of those who gave wrong answers. The event also had some dramatic elements when a contestant was mockingly 'guillotined' for failing to score some marks.

The actor entertained the audience as he delivered dialogues from his films Devdaas, Baazigar and also danced to popular tunes.

He recollected his early childhood spent in Karnataka, where his grandparents lived. "I love Karnataka", he said imitating a popular dialogue of a box office hit, much to the delight of the audience.

Television journalists who came to cover the show were at the receiving end as police behaved rudely with them.

A police official held a news reporter by the collar at the gate even as he was waiting for the organisers at the venue to come out and hand him a pass. The police official also threatened to arrest him if he did not vacate the place.

The official also hurled abuses at two other TV reporters, who protested over his "behaviour".

Even reporters who showed their accreditation cards were not spared.

Television journalists later sat on a dharna at the spot, demanding an apology from the police official.

They said they spoke to City police commissioner Shankar Bidari, who assured them that he would get the matter probed.
