'Queen of Pop' Madonna who adopted two children from the African country of Malawi says that she has been "taught a lot" by the nation which "chose" her to help it's cause.
The 'Vogue' hitmaker, who adopted, 4-year-olds Mercy and David, from the third world country, believes that she was chosen by the country to help it, said a report.
"People always ask me, 'Why did you choose Malawi?' But I have always said, 'Malawi chose me'. Growing up in a privileged life, I took education for granted. Coming to Malawi has taught me a lot," she said.
The 51-year-old singer is in the country for the opening of her charity school, the 'Raising Malawi Academy for Girls', with the two youngsters and their older siblings, Lourdes, 13, and Rocco, nine.
"I realised how much children deserve to be educated and so, for me, the best thing I could do was to build a school, a unique school that will create future female leaders, scientists, lawyers, doctors and if this school is successful it will be used as a model to replicate it in other countries," Madonna added.
The Grammy award winning singer attended the brick-laying ceremony for the school has reportedly spent 9 million pounds to build the school which will provide space for 500 girls.
