New Delhi: Pop star Ariana Grande has issued a public apology for the doughnut licking incident via a video posted on YouTube and Twitter.

In the apology, Ariana says, "Seeing a video of yourself behaving poorly is such a rude awakening, it's like, you don't know what to do."

On July 7, TMZ carried security camera footage of Ariana licking un-purchased doughnuts on display trays in a shop and saying 'I hate America.'

The chastened singer, 22, later backtracked and said her remarks about hating Americans were more out of concern for the childhood obesity rate. "I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole," she wrote in a Twitter post.

She added, "The fact that the United States has the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry."

Meanwhile, the store she was filmed in, Wolfee Donuts, has failed a health inspection with the Riverside County's Department of Environmental Health downgrading its rating from A to B, reported Ace Showbiz.

According to the inspection report, one of the reasons provided for the downgrade was due to 'customers licking donuts incorrectly placed on counter.'

The report said the doughnut tray should not have been put on top of the display case where anyone could touch it.

Wolfee Donuts has been given a week to correct the problems but will not be closed as a result.
