Los Angeles: Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was arrested on assault charges after a fight outside a bar in Florida, police officials said on Thursday.

Mr Carter, 35, was with another person, Michael Papayans, on Wednesday evening in a bar called Hog's Breath Saloon in Key West, according to a police report. The report said that a bartender realized that they were inebriated and refused to serve them. Mr Carter and Mr Papayans got angry and ignored requests for them to leave, so they were escorted out.

Outside the bar, Mr Papayans hit a bouncer and Mr Carter grabbed one by the throat, the report said.

The incident was recorded on film, police officials said. Mr Carter will appear before a judge on Thursday.

Mr Carter is one of the singers with Backstreet Boys, which achieved worldwide fame in the 1990s with songs like I Want it that Way, Everybody (Backstreet's back) and Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely.
