London: Legendary guitarist Jimmy Page has broken his silence on Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven plagiarism trial.

The rock band's founding guitarist previously remained silent as the band was accused of ripping off Spirit's 1968 song Taurus for the intro to Stairway to Heaven.

Mr Page wrote a post on Facebook to address the plagiarism trial and thanked fans after the band won the suit last month.

"A few weeks have passed since the judgment of the Stairway to Heaven case in Los Angeles, with the jury reaching a unanimous decision in a remarkably short time," he wrote.

The guitarist thanked all his fans who "contributed such a positive energy to me".

Although Led Zeppelin came out as the winner in the copyright infringement lawsuit against Spirit, the case is not over yet. Michael Skidmore, who represents the estate of late Spirit guitarist Randy California, filed an appeal on July 23.

Mr Skidmore's attorney Francis Malofiy said that Led Zeppelin "won on a technicality", since the judge would not allow him to play the recordings of the songs. He likened the experience to "fighting with one foot stapled to the floor".
