London: On the 30th death anniversary ofJohn Lennon today, musicians and fans gathered in Liverpool,the home town of the Beatles, to celebrate the works of thelegendary singer and activist.

A recreation of Astrid Kircherr's famous 1964photograph of the Fab Four on the St George's Hall steps, acandlelit vigil and the inauguration of a sculpture dedicatedto Lennon, are among the tributes the city is paying to it'smost famous son, reported BBC online.

Lennon, was was shot dead by a crazed fan in New Yorkon 8 December 1980 at the age of 40, and the occasion is beingmarked around the world and Liverpool is leading the way.

Thousands of fans are expected to gather at ChavassePark, where a sculpture has been erected in Lennon's honour,to remember what the Beatle brought to the world of art andmusic.

It is the penultimate day of a two-month series ofculture events across the city, which have been organised tocelebrate the musician's life and lasting legacy.

Lennon's widow Yoko Ono, who was beside him when hewas shot, is expected to give a concert in Tokyo on Wednesdayto mark the anniversary.

A charity concert will take place in Liverpool's EchoArena, called Lennon Remembered: The 9 Faces of John, whichwill feature the Liverpudlian's friends and former bandmatesperforming his most famous songs. The acts will include hisfirst band The Quarrymen.

Fans are also expected to gather at the 'Imagine'memorial in Central Park, New York, opposite the DakotaBuilding where the former Beatle was gunned down by killerMark Chapman 30 years ago tonight.

'Rolling Stone' magazine is releasing John Lennon'sfinal interview on the 30th anniversary of his death.

Lennon gave them an interview on Dec 5, 1980, justthree days before being gunned down.
