New Delhi: Bollywood singer Mika Singh was granted bail by a Delhi court after he appeared before it in pursuance to summons issued against him for allegedly slapping a doctor at a concert last year.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sujit Saurabh granted bail to the singer on a personal bond of Rs 20,000 and one surety of like amount.

The 38-year-old singer was arrested and granted bail by the police on the same day in June last year for assaulting Dr Shrikant, an ophthalmologist, in April 2015.

The court had summoned Mr Singh to appear before it on May 5 after taking cognizance on the charge sheet recently filed by the police under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (common intention) of IPC.

The incident took place at a concert organised by the Delhi Ophthalmological Society (DOS) at the Delhi Pusa Institute Mela Ground in Inderpuri in south west Delhi.

Delhi Police had registered a case of causing hurt and wrongful restraint against Mr Singh, after a video of the incident had gone viral on the social media.

The victim, posted at Ambedkar Hospital, had suffered internal injury in the left ear due to the assault, police said.

Police had said that while performing, Mr Singh had called some of the audience members on stage for an activity.

During the activity, something done by the doctor irked Mr Singh, who then allegedly slapped him and handed him to the bouncers, police had said.

Soon after the incident, the victim's colleagues created a ruckus at the venue but police immediately intervened and promised action against Mr Singh following which a FIR was filed.

The Singer had defended himself claiming that the doctor was drunk and causing disruption.
