Oldest Grand Ole Opry member Little Jimmy Dickens has died after suffering a cardiac arrest at a hospital in Nashville. He was 94.
The country music crooner famous for his novelty songs like
I'm Little but I'm Loud and
A-Sleepin at the Foot of the Bed died on Christmas Day, reported Ace Showbiz.
He celebrated his birthday on December 19. He is survived by his wife Mona Dickens, married since 1971, and two daughters, Pamela Detert and Lisa King. His funeral is being arranged and a public service is also being planned.
Mr Dickens joined Grand Ole Opry in 1948, the year he signed with Columbia Records. He last performed at the Opry on December 20, 2014, singing
Out Behind the Barn and delivered his trademark comedy.
"The Grand Ole Opry did not have a better friend than Little Jimmy Dickens," said Pete Fisher, Opry Vice President & General Manager.
"He loved the audience and his Opry family, and all of us loved him back. He was a one-of-kind entertainer and a great soul whose spirit will live on for years to come."
Mr Dickens was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1983. He scored No 1 single with
May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose.
