The 49-year-old singer enjoyed a meteoric rise to fameon UK TV show Britain's Got Talent in 2009, Contactmusicreported.

She has since enjoyed two number one records in bothBritain and the US and was named Sony's highest-sellinginternational artist earlier this week.

The unlikely pop idol has now earned a much morepersonal honour - she's been voted Scotland's star of the yearfor 2010.

She received a 95 per cent share of the public vote,ahead of disgraced Scottish politician Tommy Sheridan, who isfacing a jail term for perjury, in second place with three percent.

MCGregor was third with two per cent in the ScotsCaresurvey.
