"It is the generosity of fans well-wishers and friends that greet us today for the 40 years of togetherness .. so much has gone by, so much has been seen and so much affection given by all concerned .. seems just like yesterday that I drove over to a friend's place for a simple quick wedding .. and then we were off to London," Mr Bachchan wrote on his Facebook page.

Recalling the day they got married, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his blog, It "seems like just the other evening, I had driven with my parents to a friend's place on Malabar Hill, in the southern region of the city, and to a very quick, no fuss, no 'taam jhaam', family and a few friends, and a few close media, wedding."
Big B met Jaya Bachchan on the sets of 1972's Ek Nazar. His personal life was deeply entwined with his professional journey and the Amitabh-Jaya story was scripted in the best Bollywood fashion.

Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan's daughter Shweta is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda, grandson of Raj Kapoor, and the two have a daughter named Navya Naveli and a son named Agastya.
Their son Abhishek is married to former Miss World and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai. They have a daughter named Aaradhya who turned one in November last year.
Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan have weathered many storms together, including his rumoured relationship with actress Rekha, the Bofors controversy and Big B's near-fatal Coolie accident.
Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan also have a hit partnership on-screen and have created celluloid magic in films like Zanjeer, Chupke Chupke, Sholay and Abhimaan.
