Chiranjeevi's 150th Film to Launch on His 60th Birthday

Chiranjeevi will return to the silver screen after seven years

Hyderabad: Actor-turned-politician K Chiranjeevi is set to return to the silver screen after a gap of seven years as the superstar with his 150th film.

Puri Jagannadh will direct the film, which will be launched on the actor's 60th birthday on August 22.

This was confirmed on Monday by Mr Jagannadh and Chiranjveei's son, actor Ram Charan Teja, who will produce the movie.

Jagan, as Puri Jagannadh is popularly known, was excited about the development. "Who would have thought that a person who once used to decorate theatres for Chiranjeevi's films will direct him in his 150th film," the director tweeted.

Ram Charan Teja also confirmed that Jagan would be the director of the much-awaited film

Chiranjeevi, one of the most popular actors in the history of Telugu cinema, had quit films to enter politics in 2008. He launched Praja Rajyam Party in 2008 but unlike his blockbuster movies, the outfit's electoral debut in 2009 proved to be a disaster.

In 2011, Chiranjeevi merged Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress. He was subsequently nominated to Rajya Sabha and was made a minister at the centre.

Chiranjeevi, who started his career with Punadirallu in 1978, still has sizeable following in both the Telugu states - Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
