  • In his petition before Judicial Magistrate II, Murugan, Secretary of the local unit of Tamizhar Nalam Periyakkam (movement for Tamils welfare), submitted that Kalanjiyam had been working for the welfare of Tamils and the remarks by the actress had hurt the sentiments of his followers.
  • He sought to punish Anjali for defamation under IPC sections 499 and 500 besides 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
  • Magistrate Lakshmi posted the matter to May 13. The petitioner submitted that the actress, who went missing briefly last month, had complained that her stepmother and Kalanjiyam were harassing her and using her as an ATM, charges which were rejected by them later.
