New Delhi: Actor Rana Daggubati is making noise, again. But no, not with
Baahubali updates. The 31-year-old actor features in the first poster of his new war-drama
Ghazi as a naval officer. The first look of
Ghazi was released on Tuesday evening and caused somewhat of a meltdown on the Internet. The poster is simple - it stars Rana as a decorated naval officer in uniform with an intense and determined expression on his face. War-drama
Ghazi is inspired from a true incident extracted from the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.
Ghazi is directed by newcomer Sankalp and also stars actress
Taapsee Pannu in a key role.
Ghazi marks India's first submarine battle drama.
Ghazi will be made by PVP Cinema and AA Films and will release in both Tamil and Hindi. Karan Johar's Dharma Productions will take charge of the Hindi version. "
Ghazi first look is making people swoon all over," wrote the makers while revealing the first look. Intriguing indeed:
Twitter is elated with Rana Daggubati's new look. "Very happy with first look of
Ghazi," read a tweet while another said: "Looks quite sharp." Tweets poured in within minutes of the poster release, including from South actress Kriti Kharbanda.
Ghazi went on floors in January this year and this is what Rana had to say:
Ghazi documents the story of Pakistani war-submarine PNS Ghazi's role in the Indo-Pakistan sea battle of 1971 and the mysterious sinking of the old submarine.
Ghazi will also narrate the story of the naval officer, who guided his team of men
to survive underwater for 18 days during the ongoing war.
Taapsee, 29, reportedly plays the role of a refugee in the film. In an interview with news agency IANS, Taapsee said the script of the film "surprised" her: "After meeting the director of the film, I was pretty intrigued that it's such a mysterious chapter in history. I researched on some facts about the 1971 war and PNS Ghazi, which did surprise me and also made me appreciate the kind of research, which the director did when he wrote the script. It will be quite a ride for the audience to see this movie.
A source close to the production team
revealed the release date of Ghazi and told IANS: "The makers have locked February 24, 2017 as release date. The film will simultaneously release in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi."
Helmed by Sankalp,
Ghazi is expected to be loosely based on his own book
Blue Fish. Rana Daggubati was last seen in this year's Tamil comedy
Bangalore Naatkal. Fans are also eagerly waiting for Rana to reprise his role as Bhallala Deva in the sequel of SS Rajamouli's magnum opus
Baahubali in 2017. Apart from
Baahubali: The Conclusion, films like
Nene Raju Nene Mantri and
Madai Thiranthu are also in the pipeline for Rana.
