Malayalam film actor and still-photographer N L Balakrishnan died at the Medical College Hospital here, his family said today.
The 72-year-old actor had been suffering from a prolonged illness for some time.
A diploma-holder in painting, Balakrishnan entered the tinsel world as a still photographer and later turned to acting.
He was associated with over 150 films as still photographer and appeared in major and minor roles in around 100 movies. His performances in movies like
Kakkothikkavile Appooppan Thadikal, Pattanapravesham and
Joker won him appreciation.
Mr Balakrishnan's close association with eminent filmmakers like G Aravindan, John Abraham, Bharathan and Padmarajan helped him in becoming a frequent presence in parallel cinema of the 1970s and 80s.
The actor, who died last night, is survived by his wife Nalini.
