Malayam Actor Paravoor Bharathan Dies at 86

Kochi: Malayalam actor Paravoor Bharathan, who has acted in nearly 300 regional films, died at his home here on August 19, family sources said. He was 86.

He had been battling several ailments since 2009.

Although he began his career in the late 1940s with drama, he first appeared in films in 1951 and was an integral part of the film industry till 2009.

He began his career in films as a villain and migrated to character roles, thereafter. Some of his films include In Harihara Nagar, Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava, Aniathipravu, and Meleparambil Aanveedu.

National award winning actress Saradha said that she knew Mr Bharathan from the time she began her career in the Malayalam film industry.

"Two months back, I visited him at his home along with a few of my friends. All of us were so excited and happy about the time we spent together. He was a wonderful human being and was always very humble and modest."

Actor-comedian Jagadish said that Mr Bharathan was a simple and jovial person.

"I have had the good fortune of sharing screen space with the immensely talented actor, who always made acting look very simple. His death is a huge loss to all of us and the industry," said Jagadish.

Mr Bharathan is survived by his wife, actress Thankamani, three sons and a daughter.
