Rajini eager to start Rana: Family

Rajini eager to start Rana: Family

Highlights

  • For the first time, superstar Rajinikanth’s family has spoken about his health after he was discharged from hospital in Singapore.
  • The superstar’s son-in-law and actor Dhanush, told NDTV: "Rajinikanth has recovered. He is relaxed. He is waiting to start his next movie, Rana. He wants to entertain his fans. We are indebted to fans. The family is deeply touched," he added.
  • Dhanush said Rajinikanth is likely to return to India in the next two weeks, though it was not confirmed as yet.
  • Rajini was shooting for the Tamil period film Rana on April 29 when he complained of exhaustion. Since then, he has been in and out of different hospitals. He travelled to Singapore on May 28 where he was admitted to the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
  • On Saturday in a handwritten letter to his fans Rajinikanth had said it was fans who enabled him to recover and he would soon appear in Rana and make them happy.
  • On June 17, a day after he was discharged from hospital, Rajinikanth had called DMK President M Karunanidhi. DMK sources said the actor consoled Mr Karunanidhi about being voted out as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. "You've seen many ups and downs. Don't worry about anything. Take care of your health," Rajinikanth is reported to have said.
  • The call to the DMK chief came hours after Rajinikanth phoned Mr Karunanidhi's arch rival, Jayalalithaa. He congratulated the AIADMK chief on her massive victory in the state elections. He also told her he would return soon to India.
  • The two successive calls, made within hours of each other, put the focus on the superstar's political allegiance once again. In April when Tamil Nadu voted for its new government, television cameras that followed him into the polling booth seemed to capture his hand hovering near the two-leaves election symbol of Jayalalithaa's AIADMK. Contretemps - a few hours later, Rajinikanth was seated next to Mr Karunanidhi at a screening of the film Ponnar Shankar, based on a novel written by the DMK chief.
  • In 1996, Rajinikanth had famously declared "Even God can't save Tamil Nadu if Jayalalithaa is elected to power". The DMK won that election. The superstar later made up with Jayalalithaa and she attended his daughter's wedding in Chennai in November 2004.
