His colleague Kamal Haasan also tweeted, invoking late filmmaker Balu Mahendran who directed him in Moondram Pirai and its Hindi version,

Visaranai with awe," wrote Mr Haasan.
Inspired by real events, the film is based on a Tamil novel called
Lock Up and deals with police brutality and abuse of power. The book is authored by M Chandrakumar, a former auto-rickshaw driver.
Visaranai premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year and stars Dinesh, Samuthirakani, Kishore and Murugadoss in important roles.
