Veteran popular Tamil actor Ravichandran passed away at a private hospital in Chennai on Monday (July 25).
Ravichandran had been ailing for months and was hospitalised for several complications, including lung infection and failing kidneys.
Ravichandran made his film debut in 1964 with the comedy film Kaadhalikka Neramillai, alongside T S Balaiya, R. Muthuraman and Nagesh. The film turned out to be a superhit with memorable songs and classic comedy. The actor's other hits include the thriller Adhey Kangal and the rollicking comedy Utharavindri Ullevaa.
Ravichandran also worked alongside Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in Arunachalam in the late 1990s. In 2005, he stepped into film direction, launching his son Hamsavardhan.
He is survived by his wife Vimala, daughter Lavanya, and sons Balaji and Hamsavardhan. He was earlier married to Malayalam actor Sheela.
