This week, Bollywood's men in white-directors Abbas-Mustan-are back in action. What Yash Chopra is to love, Abbas Mustan are to thrillers.
More often than not, they pick up a Hollywood film, throw in melodrama, songs and Bobby Deol and create a Bollywood whodunit. Their latest release Naqaab has been heavily hyped as this year's most shocking thriller.
So was I shocked? Mildly surprised is more like it. The film is set for no apparent reason in Dubai. A minimum wage Burger King employee, Urvashi Sharma, is in the throes of a romance with a millionaire, played by Bobby Deol. She lives in his house and presumably he also pays for her expensive looking clothes.
But she sleeps in her own bedroom and pays him rent, which I think is supposed to suggest that their relationship is chaste. A handsome out-of-work actor, played by Akshaye Khanna, shows up and sweeps the fair maiden off her feet. Before you know it, she's pining for the wrong man. And all of this is mysteriously being shot on handycam.
Of course all of this sex, lies and videotape business gets very nasty. Brains are splattered on windows. Or are they? Abbas-Mustan set up the cat and mouse game nicely. The first half has you engaged and guessing. But the second half veers into monotony.
These characters have no emotional depth so you aren't involved with their inner lives. The film is merely a riddle that you want to solve. But when the plot is actually revealed, the payoff is so limp that you wonder if the whole exercise was worth it. Still, I enjoyed the songs and the actors.
I'm not sure how I feel about Bobby Deol's curls but he has a nicely dangerous decadent air about him. Akshaye Khanna is in fine form but the surprise here is debutant Urvashi Sharma. She looks fabulous though right after interval, there is an inexplicable close-up of bad skin. And more importantly, she has talent and confidence.
These actors raise Naqaab to strictly average.

this is a very worst movie ofAbbas-Mastan.It is romantic cum horrible movie. But Pritam's music is fantastic.only music gives the existance of movie. otherwise it is very boring and wasting of money and time. The script seems to be true replicia of film humraj. Well I had many expectations from this one but this movie is disappointing. Story --- with good twists and turns but not really practical, Songs --- only 2 but neither of them is good, Direction ---- Naahh not that good, Acting --- bobby= good, akshay=average, urvashi=very good. The new actress looks confident and acts good. However if you are a regular Abbas Mustaan fan and you haven't watched a suspense thriller recently, then u can go for it. The film is based on love triangle, Bobby = rich guy Urvashi = simple, down 2 earth girl (going to marry bobby) Akshay=Casanova guy (Traps Urvashi for some secret reason). I will refer to this movie as CD movie. Ghar pe 10 rs ki cd lao, kai ko paise kharab karte ho yaar !!! Watch it at home no need to go outside.
