The last collaboration between director Nagesh Kukunoor, actor Shreyas Talpade and producer Subhash Ghai produced Iqbal, an engaging, sweet, small film that was big on heart. In Bombay to Bangkok however, these three have not been able to play to each other strengths.
The film is about a cook in a small restaurant who, in a moment of weakness, steals a pouch stuffed with money. The pouch belongs to the local don and soon goons are chasing the cook, who incredibly enough pretends to be a doctor and ends up in Bangkok, where he falls in love with a Thai girl, who is the happiest, most angst-free call-girl to hit Bollywood in a few decades.
Kukunoor isn’t going for narrative logic or characterization here. He only wants laughs. So even prostitutes lined up behind a glass wall, waiting for clients to call out their number, is supposed to be funny.
So is a randy old man with Viagra and too much gas. The humor is unforgivably limp. The stray sparkling moments are provided by the don’s son who wants to be a rap artist and his unlikely romance with a psychiatrist from Surat. But mostly, the screenplay is incoherent and the craft so shoddy that the film almost looks incomplete.
It’s hard to imagine that the director who last made the heart-wrenching Dor also wrote this film in which a character looks at a woman’s backside and remarks that it is as tight as a trampoline and does ting. In fact as the end titles rolled, I decided that Nagesh actually did not make this film.
It was done by a low IQ evil twin who the family must have abandoned at the Kumbh mela.
So this message is for the genuine director: Come back Nagesh. All is forgiven.

Surfer Speaks.... It was done by a low IQ evil twin who the family must have abandoned at the Kumbh mela.
That wasn't funny/fair! You shouldn't tease the guy like this and you don't have the right too!
The flim is NOT GREAT and certainly NOT VERY BAD. but, OK. -- Don't write such comment this film is fully "paisa vasool"hence do not miss that
-- sanju khot (sanju.khot@yahoo.com) Great movie to waste ur valuable time... silly comedy... worst work done by Nagesh.. My best suggestion would be stay away from this... -- Ravi
