It's only March but I can safely declare that 26th July at Barista is the worst film that you will see this year.
The film takes place on 26th July 2005, when Mumbai city was devastated by over 30 inches of rain.
Several strangers find themselves stranded at a Barista coffee shop. As the flood worsens, they find a connection and comfort in each other. The idea wasn't bad but the execution is a tiresome joke.
The characters in the coffee shop include a struggling actress, a script writer who continues to write his next blockbuster even as the city collapses around him, a Sardar ji and his wife who seem rather cavalier about their stranded children and the barista staff who keep smiling and saying: have a coffee, it will make you feel better.
And just when you say, ok, this film can't get any worse, it actually does. A police inspector arrives and menacingly questions everyone about Rs 2 crore missing from a near-by bank.
The writing is delirious and the acting, comically bad. Even Rohini Hattangady, an otherwise fine actor, becomes afflicted by the inanity around her and gets hysterical.
At the end of the eight reels, I could only ask: the deluge was bad enough. Must we suffer more? Don't go any where near this one.

Surfer Speaks....
I saw the film and I have to agree that flaws are there from the start to the end. overall the film had great potential but could not hold the issue at hand. I did enjoy Kabier Sawhney greatly as I felt for a 1st film as I have not seen him B4 kept the character real and made me watch the film. Simran Vaid was passable. But over all I would like to see Kabier Sawhney more as I feel in today's acting world its rare to see such naturel acting that also in a a bad film as this. -- Janet
