Marischa Fernandes, choreographer for Meiyang Chang, who was crowned winner of the fourth season of hit dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa, said that the singer-actor was not confident of his dancing skills.

"Chang was not confident of being a dancer since he was new to it. He used to feel that he looked stupid on stage. I had to build his self-confidence and keep pushing and motivating him. After judges discovered the potential in him, we started getting good marks and he became better," Marischa told PTI.

The 27-year-old choreographer said she had difficulty teaching the moves to Chang as he was a non-dancer.

"The journey has been a tough one. Initially, I had problems to make him learn dance, but as we progressed there was improvement. The moment the music was on, he would dance. He started doing his own moves. But I must admit he is a good student. I just had to keep patience with him," Marischa said.

On tough competitors, Marischa said, "Obviously, as Sushant was performing brilliantly he was a competitor. I feel choreographer Savio was also our tough competitor but he did not get more time with his celebrity partner Mahi for rehearsals this time. Last year, Savio was too good with Hard Kaur."

About her future plans, Marischa said, "I am open to anything be it films or anything. Dance is a passion."

Chang, a professional dentist-turned singer-actor and now a dancer, won the coveted title after beating "item girl" Yana Gupta and TV actor Sushant Singh Rajput of the Pavitra Rishta fame.

The winning duo bagged a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh each.
