New Delhi: Jon Hamm is no longer the Leonardo DiCaprio of TV, finally taking home his first ever Emmy award this year. At the just-concluded show hosted by Andy Samberg in Los Angeles on September 20, Jon Hamm was named Best Actor - Drama for his performance as Don Draper in hit show Mad Men. This was his eighth nomination in as many years. For the least seven years since 2008, he has left the Emmys empty-handed, just like Leonardo DiCaprio, multiple Oscar nominee and serially disappointed.

So excited was the erstwhile Mr Draper that he didn't bother with the stairs, scrambling up on stage belly first to receive his prize from a bemused Tina Fey:

"There has clearly been a mistake," the 44-year-old actor said in his speech. His competition this year was tough - House of Cards' Kevin Spacey, Jeff Daniels from The Newsroom, Live Schreiber of Ray Donovan, Kyle Chandler from Bloodline and Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk. "It's impossible to be named with all of those extraordinary gentlemen. It's impossible to have done this show with this incredible cast, these incredible people, our incredible writers, our incredible crew. And it's incredible and impossible for me, personally, to be standing up here," Jon said. (Also Read: List of Winners)

This year was his last chance to win for Mad Men, which ended in May.

Other top prizes at the Emmys went to Viola Davis who became the first African-American to win Best Actress - Drama for her work in How To Get Away With Murder, Julia Louis-Dreyfus winning her seventh Emmy, Peter Dinklage for Game Of Thrones, which also won Best Drama Series, and Jeffrey Tambor, who won Best Actor - Comedy for Transparent.
