Music mogul Simon Cowell is reportedly planning a major revamp of X Factor by letting contestants perform their own material.
Cowell, 52, who is determined to win back four million viewers who deserted the series last year, will also include
hopefuls recommended by music industry bosses, reported Sun online.
"The idea might be to allow for more original music throughout the competition. Whether this means they will be
writing their own songs isn't confirmed, but it's looking like it's going that way," a source said.
The themed weeks, which have included Abba and Michael Jackson, could also be dropped. Instead, top music producers
will be brought in by each judge to guide the finalists.
