Udta Punjab is battling the Censor Board's prescribed 89 cuts, led by co-producer Anurag Kashyap who is campaigning to have the film release in its current form
"If the makers feel it is not justified then let them take a public opinion on this. Tell me, is the subject of homosexuality for kids? For teenagers? We have already cleared the film and now they are creating a controversy. This is a cheap publicity stunt by him (Hansal Mehta)," said Mr Nihalani
"Every individual is entitled to his/her own opinion. They can think what they want about who they want," Pahlaj Nihalani said in an interview
New Censor Board Chairman, Pahlaj Nihalani, blamed his predecessor Leela Samson for kicking up a controversy
Pahlaj Nihalani, who turned the censor board into a precinct of serial controversy, has been sacked as the organisation's chairman. His successor is famous lyricist-adman Prasoon Joshi, while actor Vidya Balan joins the board.
Anurag Kashyap, who has co-produced Udta Punjab, said: "It's about my right as a filmmaker and what I feel and my constitution allows me to do that." Referring to Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani, he added: "Why is this one man, who can behave so erratically, is treating it as his personal fiefdom?"
