Akshay Kumar on His Role in Baby: I Admire Men in Uniform and Wanted To Be in the Indian Navy

Akshay says his forthcoming film Baby is inspired from real-life events

The Khiladi is all set to put some act into action once again, this time as Ajay Singh Rathore in Neeraj Pandey's slick espionage thriller Baby. Yes, I wondered why was he calling the film Baby if it's a spy thriller but then I understood it is a code word for the core Intelligence group. Like Pandey's previous films, Baby, too, is inspired by real life events, and salutes the bravodo of the men working as part of the Intelligence service, risking their lives and putting everything at stake for the nation. Talking about his role in Baby, Akshay said "I admire men in uniform. I wanted to be in the Indian Navy. My father was in the Army. Since I came into films, I fulfil my ambitions by playing these roles."

Baby, which was wrapped up in 45 days, has been extensively shot in Turkey, Abu Dhabi and Kathmandu. The songless thriller with its nail biting climax, is realistically portrayed.

Akshay and director Neeraj Pandey, both said that their research during the course of the film made them realize how terrorism and its impending dangers could blow up into much more. They also emphasized on how the men who constantly work to protect us are forgotten easily. Talking about the unsung heroes, Akshay said "They are the men who say that more than dying for the country, I would want to live for it. I salute them and especially their families, who put so much at stake".

So was the Khiladi intentionally trying to distance himself from films like Hera Phera 3?

"No, I am doing Housefull 3. I, on one hand, love working on over the top genres, where the director tells you to ham and you do that and when I get my fill, I come to the kind of cinema Neeraj excels in," said Akshay.

Regarding the Censor Board, Akshay said the board and its decisions are to respected. "I have never faced any issue barring a slight one during the 2012 film OMG - Oh My God!. But when religion is involved, there are bound to be reservations," he said. With the World Cup approaching , Akshay gave a thumbs up to Team India saying his dream finale would be India vs Australia and asked the men in blue to brush up their bowling and roar on the field.
