- Amitabh Bachchan's conquest of New York/Hollywood is complete. It began at the premiere of The Great Gatsby in the Big Apple where deafening cheers from the gathered crowd left the American press looking in vain for the star of the film, Leonardo DiCaprio. The cheers were for Mr Bachchan, who plays the minor but important role of Meyer Wolfsheim, a shady Jew who serves as a father figure to Leonardo's character, the mysterious Jay Gatsby.
- And it isn't just the fans who love Mr Bachchan, the critics adore him as well. This morning, the actor posted an excerpt from Variety magazine's review of The Great Gatsby on his Facebook page: "By far the liveliest work in the film comes from two actors with only a few minutes of screen time between them: the lithe, long-limbed newcomer Elizabeth Debicki as gabby golf pro Jordan Baker, and, in a single scene that marks his belated Hollywood debut, Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the flamboyant Jewish "gambler," Meyer Wolfsheim."
- He added: In shocked disbelief .. no no this cannot be true .. !!!

- On his blog (http://srbachchan.tumblr.com/), Mr Bachchan, surely Bollywood's most modest superstar, also wrote about how The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann remembered their first meeting: Baz remembers his meeting with us and a meal at his place here in NYC .. I wondered if he had forgotten ... people in his position and standing would perhaps do ... and legitimate too, without offence .. they are big and large and of much greater importance ... they are tall and I am not at all .. !!
- And it wasn't all work and no play for Mr Bachchan who relished his New York experience, tweeting: T 1100 -The drive down the vastly lit up 5th Av, Madison or Park in NYC and XM fm with soul jazz, large accommodation in SUV..this is NYC !
