Anushka Sharma Says Films Should Be Remembered for Stories, Not Stars

Anushka's NH10 is set to release on March 13

Actress Anushka Sharma feels that there is a disparity in the remuneration of male and female actors in Bollywood, but she thanks films like Queen and Mary Kom for bringing a "stable time" for the actresses in the film industry.

When asked about her take on the difference in the remuneration of male and female actors in Bollywood, Anushka said "There is no doubt that there is disparity, but I think we are moving towards a stable time."

"Last year, films Queen and Mary Kom did wonderfully at the box office and were remembered for the value that they added to our industry. Both films were led by female stars and I think those kind of films are changing trends," she added.

The actress was in Delhi recently to promote her film NH10, which is set to release on March 13.

Directed by Navdeep Singh, the film is co-produced by Phantom Films and Eros International. NH10 marks Anushka's production debut. The film also stars actors Neil Bhoopalam and Darshan Kumaar.

Anushka feels that it's time for films to be remembered for their stories and not for the stars in them.

"I don't think that a film should be known as 'male-centric' or 'female-centric', but it should be known for the story. That would be really nice and viable too. I think this film (NH10) could have been done equally well by anybody else and it's not a 'female-centric' or 'male-centric' film. It's the story that will appeal to the audience," she said.

NH10 is based on a young couple, played by Anushka and Neil, whose road trip goes awry after an encounter with a group of violent criminals.
