New Delhi: No selfies on the Cannes red carpet this year, decreed festival director Thierry Fremaux sending a ripple of alarm through social media. It needn't have worried, the no-selfie rule has been blithely ignored by several celebrities who've managed to sneak at least one in before navigating the camera-filled stretch to the Palais de Festivals.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Desperate Housewives alumnus Eva Longoria took this one together as a testament to their friendship. They were attending the screening of actress Cate Blanchett's film Carol on May 17. (Also Read: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Stops Red Carpet Traffic in Elie Saab)

"Wouldn't be my 10 year anniversary without Aishwarya," Eva wrote in a separate tweet. Both women are veterans of Cannes - Eva is celebrating a decade on the French Riviera and Aishwarya is making her 14th appearance.

L'Oreal, the cosmetics giant that both actresses represent at Cannes, outed the normally stately Aishwarya as one of a small clutch of celebs who insist on ruining other people's photos. She has Jennifer Lawrence and Benedict Cumberbatch for company.

The selfies have been trickling in since Cannes kicked off last week. Sonam Kapoor took one over the weekend:

Cannes rookie Katrina Kaif took one with Julianne Moore:

Models Karlie Kloss, Liya Kebede and Doutzen Kroes posed for one together:

"You never look as ugly as you do in a selfie," Thierry Fremaux complained ahead of the festival. Those populating his red carpet don't appear to agree.
