Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be skipping the prestigious amfAR Gala at the 69th Cannes Film Festival this year due to commitments towards her forthcoming film Sarbjit.
The actress, who is the brand ambassador of L'Oreal Paris, will represent the brand at Cannes.
The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May 11 to May 22. This will be Aishwarya's 15th year at the Cannes Film Festival. She will walk the red carpet on May 13 and May 14.
The amfAR Gala at Cannes is scheduled for May 19.
Sarbjit is slated to release on May 20 and Aishwarya will be giving the glamorous charity event a miss, as her commitments towards promoting Sarbjit will bring her back to India, read a statement.
Aishwarya will be returning from Cannes immediately after her red carpet appearances to promote the movie and for other professional commitments.
amfAR Gala has been established to generate funds to raise awareness for AIDS.
Singer Katy Perry will be leading the event this year. L'Oreal Paris ambassadors like Karlie Kloss, Natasha Poly, Irina Shayk, Barbara Palvin and Helen Mirren will also be attending the gala.
Sarbjit is based on the life of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted on charges of terrorism and spying in Pakistan; he died in a Pakistani jail. Aishwarya will be seen playing the role of Dalbir Kaur in the film while Randeep Hooda plays the titular role.
