Celeb vs Celeb: 10 Showbiz Feuds of 2015

New Delhi: Show business is an unforgiving world. Competition is cutthroat, fame is fickle and everybody is quick to choose a winning side. So when the celebrity population disagrees, the fallout often makes headlines. Social media helps take feuds that might normally be kept private, public. 2015 was littered with celeb vs celeb - here's a list of 10 feuds:

1. Deepika Padukone vs Kangana Ranaut

Gossip subscribes to a rivalry between the year's top actresses and insist they don't get long. It started when Deepika won the Best Actress prize at an award show in early 2015 and dedicated the win to Kangana's critically acclaimed performance in Queen. Kangana, who doesn't attend award shows, later told Hindustan Times that she was upset Deepika hadn't called to congratulate her after Queen released in 2014, but that they cleared the air in a phone conversation. All seened well for a while, with Kangana even showing up at Deepika's party for her film Piku. From there, it was all downhill. In interviews to the press, Kangana described her equation with Deepika as 'katti batti.' For her part, Deepika was a no-show at Kangana's Tanu Weds Manu Returns party.

2. Pahlaj Nihalani vs Censor Board

It's been tough being Pahlaj Nihalani this year. The filmmaker became Chief Censor in January and has routinely been criticised by not only the film industry but also members of the Censor Board for the zeal with which he has embraced his duties and what is perceived as an autocratic style of functioning. Particularly reviled was the list of banned cuss words circulated, leading to cuts in films like NH10 and Badlapur, and the chopping of the kissing scenes in the Bond film SPECTRE. Mr Nihalani was attacked by Censor Board members Ashoke Pandit and Chandraprakash Dwivedi in tweets and a strongly-worded letter, accusing him unilateral decision making and of being an 'anarchist.' Rajyavardhan Rathore, the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, eventually brokered an uneasy peace between Mr Nihalani and Bollywood, and Mr Nihalani and his Board colleagues. In his defence, Pahlaj Nihalani has claimed that he was only following rules.

3. Kamaal R Khan vs the World

KRK trolled almost everyone this year - from Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap over Bombay Velvet to Ranveer Singh over the AIB Roast (Ranveer blocked him, for his efforts). He insisted in tweets that KJo had offered him cash in exchange for a good 'review' of Bombay Velvet. He responded to a picture tweeted by actress Lisa Haydon with a rather lewd comment. In turn, Lisa described him as a #lowlife. In September, Rishi Kapoor found himself and absent son Ranbir subjected to a series of insulting tweets from KRK and reported him to Twitter. KRK then threatened to file a harassment case against Mr Kapoor, Twitter and websites which reported the story. He hasn't done so thus far but it' hardly likely that Twitter has seen and heard the last of him.

4. Taylor Swift vs Nicki Minaj vs Katy Perry

There was some brief but seriously Bad Blood between singers Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj on Twitter. After Nicki's Anaconda missed out on the nomination for Best Video at the MTV VMAs, she tweeted about women with "slim bodies" getting the nods, which Taylor took personally. She tweeted back:

Nicki rushed to reassure Taylor that the admiration was mutual but matters continued, where they might have ended, after Katy Perry inserted herself into the argument, perhaps as payback for being lampooned in Taylor's music video:

5. Ameesha Patel vs Kushal Tandon

In October, Kushal Tandon tweeted about having seen Ameesha Patel fail to stand for the national anthem in a Mumbai theatre. In a series of angry tweets, Ameesha blamed her immobility on menstruation and suggested that women 'slap' Kushal.

6. Jennifer Lawrence vs Lindsay Lohan

Jennifer temporarily lost her 'most popular' status after taking a dig at actress Lindsay Lohan on a television show. She said: "I get like, Lindsay Lohan-grade exhaustion, but without any drugs or alcohol. I'm always in bed early. I'm still tired." Lindsay and her sister Aliana tweeted that it was not cool. The troubled Mean Girlsstar suggested that JLaw read Maya Angelou:

7. Anurag Kashyap vs Ram Gopal Varma

The Bombay Velvet debacle will probably haunt Anurag for the rest of his career but there was at least one person who was positively gleeful that the film had failed so massively. RGV, Anurag's former mentor, 'Bombay Velvet is Anurag Kashyap's Aag,' ranted RGV, referring to his own disastrous remake of Sholay. 'A director standing by his film rejected by the audience is like him telling a girl "I love myself and I don't care if you don't love me,"' he went on. In a tweet of his own, Anurag suggested RGV 'put that Vodka aside and sleep.' Unsurprisingly, it didn't end there.

8. Anupam Kher vs Shirish Kunder

As 2015 wound down, Aamir Khan caused something of a commotion with his comments on 'intolerance,' especially a remark about his wife Kiran Rao suggesting that they move countries. On the sidelines of the debate that it provoked, actor Anupam Kher and filmmaker Shirish Kunder took opposing sides in related skirmish.

Mr Kher was among the earliest to criticise Aamir's words. In tweets like this one addressed to his Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin co-star, he said:

Shirish Kunder ranged himself behind Aamir in this tweet, the logic in which passed most people (including Mr Kher) by.

Ouch. But this battle at least ended right there.

9. Zayn Malik vs One Direction

In March this year, One Directioner Zayn Malik quit the boy band in search of a 'normal life.' At the time, 1D supported Zayn's decision and the split seemed amicable. But the very next month, Zayn released a new single in collaboration with Naughty Boy. It's been war since then, as this tweet from Zayn to former bandmate Louis Tomlinson proves.

10. Sonam Kapoor vs Ashoke Pandit

Among the many extreme reactions to the controversial AIB Roast earlier this year was a particularly hateful and obscene tweet directed by Ashoke Pandit at filmmaker and Roastmaster Karan Johar. KJo's sexuality was the subject of several Roast jokes and while he did not respond to Mr Pandit, actress Sonam Kapoor did. She certainly didn't mince her words, describing Ashoke Pandit as both 'homophobic' and 'misogynistic' and a 'loser' to boot.
