Mohit Suri's Hamari Adhuri Kahani, which talks about freeing women from patriarchy, is now tax free in Uttar Pradesh.
Uttar Pradesh has become the third state after Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to declare the film, starring Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi, tax free.
"The UP government has made our film tax free because the core theme of our film passionately raises the issue of women's empowerment," Mahesh Bhatt, who has written the screenplay, said in a statement.
Hamari Adhuri Kahani, which hit the screens on June 12, has been produced by Vishesh Films, and marketed and distributed by Fox Star Studios.
The film has so far made Rs 22.47 crore in India and $1.2 million overseas.
