Mumbai: Six-pack abs are a must when it comes to leading men in Bollywood. Whether you are a newcomer like Tiger Shroff or a superstar like Salman Khan, if you want to pack a punch, you need to have the pack.

Actor Harshvardhan Kapoor is the latest star son gearing up for his first release on the silver screen with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Mirzya, and if you have watched the film's promos closely, you will realise that there are no bulging muscles or the much-talked about abs on display. Much like his father actor Anil Kapoor, Harshvardhan is lean but in no way is he mean when it comes to his physique. The question was finally put forward at the recent Mirzya event and while everyone expected Harshvardhan to answer it was Rakeysh who spoke first.

"I know that it's very important to have a six-pack these days but let me tell you that Harshvardhan gave me 18 months just for the preparation for the role," Rakyesh said. "Harshvardhan plays a horse rider in the film and if you have seen people who ride horses for a living you will realise that they hardly boast of huge muscles. Harshvardhan doesn't play a boxer in Mirzya, he plays a man who is very good at horse riding and mounted archery," the director added.

"What we also have to understand is that Harshvardhan plays two separate characters in the film... one of those has no dialogues while the other is based in 2016. Harshvardhan had to prepare for both," added Rakeysh.

And while that will put to rest all talk about Harshvardhan being lean in his debut film, what caught our attention was the 18 months that he put into his character. He is clearly going the Aamir Khan way.

"Yes! Aamir Khan has been a huge influence on my life. When I was growing up Aamir was doing films like Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan and Rang De Basanti... all of them character driven films," said Harshvardhan.

Mirzya, which also stars Saiyami Kher, will hit the screens on October 7.
