Mumbai: Known to speak her heart out, it appears that actress Kangana Ranaut responded to Hrithik Roshan's filmmaker father Rakesh Roshan's recent comments on the feud between the Kites co-stars which made headlines earlier this year.

At an event in Mumbai, Ms Ranaut asked: "Why Indian men cannot stand up for themselves and a father is defending his son?"

Asked about the filmmaker's comment that "someone" was "spreading lies" about his son, Ms Ranaut replied immediately: "No, but I want to know why can't Indian men stand up for themselves? He is a 42-year-old son. Why his father has to come for his rescue always?"

In an interview to Hindustan Times, Hrithik's filmmaker father said: "Hrithik is different. Even when someone was spreading lies about him, he chose to stay calm and dignified. If he does choose to come out with the truth, it will shock everyone."

"For how long they will keep hiding behind their influential big names of father. He is an adult and he can pretty much handle his own controversies in show business. It is just a simple controversy. Why daddies have to always save their sons, I don't understand this," the actress added.

Actress Kangana Ranaut was present at an event to launch Chetan Bhagat's new novel One Indian Girl on Saturday.

The author said, "The book has been written completely from a woman's perspective and he interviewed around 100 women for writing it. This book will help men to understand their women better."

Ms Ranaut also expressed her views on the book.

"I have read the book and it's a very human take on a working woman. Its lot more meaningful because it's coming from a man. When I read it I was in tears because it sounded like a leaf out of my own book," Ms Ranaut added.

She confessed that whenever she got successful, her partner felt jealous and her relationship went wrong.

Mr Bhagat also told the media how he had become a househusband to be a writer and was looked down by society.

After reading the book's manuscript, Kangana said, "I am definitely playing the lead whenever you turn the book into a film."
