New Delhi:
On Wednesday came the
announcement that Katrina Kaif will be the next recipient to be honoured with the Smita Patil Memorial Award. She joins the ranks of actresses like Tanvi Azmi, Sridevi and Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, Tabu, Vidya Balan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
Granted, that Miss Kaif has been in the Hindi film industry for more than a decade,
and her latest releaseBaar Baar Dekho with Sidharth Malhotra wasn't a complete wash-out, however, many in the online universe believe that the decision by the Priyadarshini Academy, the NGO conducting these awards, may be an insult to the memory and acting prowess of the late actress who won immense critical acclaim for her performances in films like
Manthan,
Bhumika and
Arth.
In spite of a massive fan following, Katrina's nomination for the award is so surprising to many that it wasn't long before Twitter exploded with jokes, and started trolling the actress.
Some are not fans of Katrina's acting and they made it abundantly clear:
There were political angles:
Some recalled her alleged high-profile relationship with a certain superstar:
Before we knew it, Chetan Bhagat was getting trolled:
Some were still trying to find sense in the world:
Stop the world, some people wanted to get off:
But Katrina needn't worry. Because 'haters gonna hate.'
