Bhudhana: Deep in the farmlands of Bhudana in western Uttar Pradesh, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is not on a movie set. Toiling away on an ancestral mustard farm, the actor says he doesn't want people in his village to treat him any different and therefore he goes about doing what he used to - farm.

Nawazuddin, 42, started farming at a young age though his father always emphasised on getting a formal education. He went on to get a degree in chemistry but the love for agriculture never left him. He was recently named the brand ambassador for the state's flagship Kisan Beema Yojna, something he says he relates to.

"My interaction with farmers here helps me understand their problems better. I myself used to farm therefore understand the roadblocks a farmer faces. With well-researched action, the aim is to improve conditions for farmers," Nawazuddin tells NDTV.

On a lighter note, he says that coming home and farming is like a detox regime and an inspiration. He observes and understands characters in the village and uses them in his movies. "My character in the movie Talaash was inspired from here and my search for inspiration always brings me back to my roots," Nawazuddin said.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who was last seen in Sohail Khan's Freaky Ali will soon be shooting for the biopic of Pakistani author Saadat Hasan Manto.
