Kolkata: Filmmaker Prakash Jha said that India does not need censorship.

Censor Board chief Pahlaj Nihalani wanted Mr Jha to remove a word and certain scenes from his upcoming film Jai Gangaajal, starring Priyanka Chopra.

"The Censor Board has been imposed upon us. It was never needed. We can do censorship on our own. We don't need anyone to tell us what to do and what not," said Mr Jha.

"Pahlaj Nihalani has his own agenda," Mr Jha alleged.

"There is a certain language and texture in the film which he doesn't understand," said Mr Jha, adding that he has appealed before the tribunal about his film.

"I hope I will get justice there without any cuts," said Mr Jha.

Jai Gangaajal is a sequel to 2003's Gangaajal.

"Now, things have changed after 12 years. The new generation has more aspirations in a growing and developing India. I had never stopped acting. This time, I am acting for the audience. Earlier, I used to act for myself," said Mr Jha. (Also Read: Jai Gangaajal Cuts: Nihalani Says Prakash Jha 'Not Telling Entire Truth')
