Ranbir, Armaan: For The Love of Kapoors and Football

Ranbir and Armaan captained their respective teams

Highlights

  • The Kapoors continued their show of strength for fourth-generation actor Armaan Jain who makes his showbiz debut with Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. Armaan's cousin Ranbir, who has thus far been missing from the cheerleading squad of aunts, uncles and sisters, helped him promote the film with a friendly football match in Mumbai yesterday. It being FIFA World cup season and all.
  • The closely contested match, in which the two actors captained their respective teams, had all the ingredients of a Kapoor potboiler.
  • Ranbir's team included close friend and Rockstar director Imtiaz Ali, whose brother Arif is the director of Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. Deeksha Seth, Armaan's leading lady in Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, reportedly played referee.
  • An emotional Ranbir said after the match, "When Armaan was two-years-old, I bought him his first football and football shoes. So he should be grateful to me lifelong for instilling a love for the game in him." Armaan quipped that he was still wearing the same shoes.
  • Armaan revealed he was both nervous and excited about the film, an emotion he could best describe as "positive anxiety." He also revealed that his Rockstar brother was a great inspiration. Ranbir, however, thinks otherwise. "Yeh hum sab ka baap hai, humein isey follow karna padeyga," Ranbir said.
  • Ranbir is a football fan and his favourite player is Argentina's Lionel Messi. In school, his first brush with fame came via football, rather than acting. "My name appeared in the newspaper and my mother has still preserved that cutting. I used to get a lot of attention from girls and my classmates whenever I scored a winning goal. I didn't do too much in school and it was through football that I felt alive," Ranbir said.
  • On June 12, Armaan made a grand public debut amid a congregation of Kapoors who attended the launch of the music of Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, the title of which has been borrowed from Armaan's aunt-by-marriage Neetu Singh's hit song from 1973 film Yaadon Ki Baaraat. The sea of Kapoors included Armaan's cousins Karisma and Kareena, grandmother Krishna Raj Kapoor, uncles Rishi, Randhir and Rajeev Kapoor and Neetu Singh.
