Mumbai: Actress Richa Chadha may be one of the most popular faces in upcoming film Masaan but the actress said that she is not the star in the film and the movie will work for itself.

"It would be unfair to say that I am carrying the film on my shoulders. The film will work for itself. It's a team effort. I had a great time working on this film. I made a lot of friends. We worked like a family," Richa said, while addressing the media at the trailer launch of the film.

The 26-year-old actress, who made her mark with films like Gangs of Wasseypur and Fukrey, insisted that she always chooses unconventional roles.

"I played a middle class girl in Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye, a Muslim housewife in Gangs of Wasseypur. Whatever films I do, I try to do something new and different every time," she said.

Masaan, an Indo-French production, is directed by debutante Neeraj Ghaywan. The movie premiered this year's Cannes International Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category.

The film was positively reviewed at the festival and also won two awards - FIPRESCI, International Jury of Film Critics prize and Promising Future prize.

Masaan, also starring Sanjay Mishra, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi in pivotal roles, is set in Varanasi and revolves around a bunch of characters trying to escape their small town moralities.

Masaan will release on July 24 in India.
