RIP APJ Abdul Kalam: On Twitter, Bollywood Mourns Former President

Mumbai: The tragic demise of India's 11th President APJ Abdul Kalam has left many in grief including Bollywood actors. Celebrities including Lata Mangeshkar, Shah Rukh Khan and A R Rahman mourned the demise of the former President, referring to his death as a great loss to the country.

Dr Kalam, also known as the 'People's President', served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. He died on July 27 at a hospital in Meghalaya, where he had gone to deliver a lecture. He was 83.

The news of his death has broken hearts all over Bollywood. Many celebrities paid tribute to the former President on social media.

Rajya Sabha MP and lyricist-writer Javed Akhtar said at an event in Delhi: "I just got this news. It is a very sad moment for us. I think he has left behind good values for us. And the way he led his life was exemplary. The way he thought, the way he spoke, the way he lived, all that should be a torchlight guiding us and we should keep him alive in our hearts."
