It is Raj Kapoor's 29th death anniversary today and his son, actor Rishi Kapoor, remembered him by with a line from his memorable song Jeena Yahan Marna Yahaan from Mera Naam Joker. Rishi Kapoor, 64, tweeted a picture of Raj Kapoor and captioned it: "Papa, today 29 years ago, you left us. 'Par hum tumhare rahenge sada'." Rishi Kapoor is one of Raj Kapoor's five children. His brothers, Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor, are also actors and his sisters are Reema Jain and Ritu Nanda. Raj Kapoor, known for films like Shri 420, Awara and Sangam, died due to asthma related complications in June 1988 at age 63.

Rishi Kapoor first worked with his father in Shree 420, in which he appeared in the song Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua. At the age of 18, Rishi Kapoor starred in Raj Kapoor's Mera Naam Joker (1970). The role of adolescent Raju (whose older version was played by Raj Kapoor) won him a National Award. The film tanked at the box office but gained cult status later. A shorter version of the film released years later and had a successful run at the box office. In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored, Rishi Kapoor talks about how his father cast him in the role of young Raju and the 'sacrifices' he made for the film.
Raj Kapoor relaunched Rishi Kapoor three years later in Bobby opposite Dimple Kapadia. He also made a special appearance in the song John Johny Janardan, along with his brother Shammi Kapoor, in Rishi Kapoor's Naseeb.
Rishi Kapoor was last seen in Kapoor And Sons and his upcoming films are Manto and 102 Not Out.
