Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is known to be a home-body and has rarely, if ever, celebrated her birthday with a grand party. But for husband Abhishek, who turned 38 on February 5, she hosted a star-studded do at the Bachchan residence Jalsa.
Chief among the celebrity guests was superstar Shah Rukh Khan who's co-starred with Aishwarya in movies like Devdas and Josh, and with Abhishek in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and the currently-filming Happy New Year. SRK, who was accompanied by wife Gauri, isn't letting the injuries he received while shooting two weeks ago keep him at home. He's returned to work and was also spotted at Deol daughter Ahana's wedding in Mumbai on February 2.

Also at Abhishek's party were Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna director Karan Johar, designer Manish Malhotra, Happy New Year director Farah Khan, and Abhishek's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag co-star Kunal Kapoor. Best friend Goldie Behl and wife Sonali Bendre were there, as they always are at all Bachchan events.

Missing in action was Happy New Year heroine Deepika Padukone.
Abhishek's birthday was occasion for father Amitabh Bachchan to write a rather emotional post on his blog: "Abhishek just turned 38 ... ! It is obvious cliche to start speaking suddenly of the day and moment he was born and what we were up to, of how he behaved when young, of his growing up, his days then to now, little incidents of nostalgic flavour.
Now it is best to be with him as an adult a friend a confidante .. a support, a companion .. that is best what occurs to me, and shall ever remain."
Happy birthday again, Abhishek.
