Today's Big Release: Akshay and Sidharth's Brothers

New Delhi: Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra's much-awaited movie Brothers hits screens today. Directed by Karan Malhotra, the movie also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Jackie Shroff and Shefali Shah in significant roles.

Brothers is an official remake of the 2011 Hollywood hit Warrior which featured Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton as the two estranged brothers, to be played by Akshay and Sidharth in the Hindi version.

Jackie, who plays father to the troubled brothers in his comeback movie of sorts, recently said that he is thankful for a "solid and powerful" role in the movie. He added: "Throughout the 30 years of my career in the industry, I've done several emotional roles, but this is the first movie in which Karan Malhotra has extracted a lot of emotions from my heart."

Kareena Kapoor features in an item number. Brothers is produced by filmmaker Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

Gour Hari Dastaan, which stars Vinay Pathak in the titular role of Gandhian Gour Hari Das, too releases today. Directed by Ananth Mahadevan, the movie also stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ranvir Shorey and Tannishtha Mukherjee and tracks the story of a man who exhausts 30 years of his life in order to establish his identity as a freedom fighter, fighting corruption at every step.

Meanwhile, Hollywood has the animated stop-motion film Shaun the Sheep on offer, which is based on the TV series of the same name. Directed by Mark Burton, the silent comedy features Shaun, his crew and a guard dog in a series of adventures, in an attempt to rescue their master, which spice up their otherwise mundane life. The movie, which first released in the UK in February this year, is slated to release here today.
