Directed by Kannan Iyer, the film deals with witchcraft and the world of the occult. Ek Thi Daayan features Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi, Konkona Sen Sharma and Kalki Koechlin in the lead roles.
The story of the film revolves around Emraan Hashmi, who plays the role of a magician, haunted by the unknown. Huma Qureshi of Gangs Of Wasseypur fame plays Emraan's wife in the film.
The film is co-produced by Vishal Bhardwaj and Ekta Kapoor. Intensive promotions of the film include a mini-TV series titled Ek Thhi Naayika and a book titled Daayan by Ved Prakash Sharma. The TV show was a prelude to the movie and featured eight female actors enacting a particular role in each episode.
Ek Thi Daayan's a U/A certification was a "welcome change" for Emraan Hashmi who has is only now starting to shake off the serial-kisser tag. "Probably, this (Ek Thi Daayan) is my second or third film with U/A certificate, but it's a welcome change," Emraan said adding, "as it is said that with U/A certificate, the audience increases by 15 to 20 percent. It's great to somewhere capitalise through the content of this film, so that a larger audience embraces this film."
On the other hand Emraan would also love to meet a real witch someday. "I think I am a little superstitious, but I haven't had the chance to meet any daayan. But I definitely want to meet one and it would be great if she is beautiful and sexy," Emraan said at a press conference.
