Today's Big Releases: CityLights, Maleficent

CityLights features Rajkummar Rao opposite Patralekha and Angelina Jolie plays the eponymous Maleficent.

Highlights

  • Cricket and election season is behind us and the only entertainment for this weekend is at the box office. Offerings include drama, rom-com and a re-imagining of a Disney classic.
  • The National Award-winning team of Shahid - director Hansal Mehta and actor Rajkummar Rao - reunite for CityLights, co-presented by Bhatt brothers Mahesh and Mukesh. The film, a remake of British movie Metro Manila, tells the story of a small-town couple struggling to survive in Mumbai. CityLights co-stars debutante Patralekha.
  • From Hollywood comes the much-awaited Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie in the title role. Told from the viewpoint of one of the wickedest of Disney's witches, this modern take on 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty also stars Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora and a cast of other Hollywood notables.
  • Bollywood also offers Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi, a rom-com directed by Aman Sachdeva and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor and Bejoy Nambiar. The movie, which ran into heavy weather over its title, stars Siddharth Gupta and Ashish Juneja.
