Highlights

  • It's action all the way at the box office this weekend with Akshay Kumar's Holiday and Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow set for release. Both actors play military men in their movies.
  • Directed by A R Murugadoss, Holiday is a remake of the 2012 Tamil film Thuppakki and stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. Akshay plays an army man who comes home on leave in search of a bride, but stumbles upon sleeper terrorist cells. Sonakshi plays his love interest.
  • Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, revolves around an army officer (Tom Cruise) who finds himself trapped in a time loop while waging war against an alien race. He is forced to face the same combat situations repeatedly thereby leading to an increase in his survival skills. He then teams up with a Special Forces soldier (Emily Blunt) and the two form a strategy to defeat the enemy.
  • Also up for release this weekend is the low budget National Award-winning movie Filmistaan directed by Nitin Kakkar and featuring Sharib Hashmi and Inaamulhaq in key roles. The story, which carries a message of cross-border harmony, revolves around a Bollywood film buff, Sunny, who ventures into remote Rajasthan with an American crew to make a documentary only to be kidnapped by an Islamic terrorist group in a case of mistaken identity. Confined to a Pakistani house, he develops a bond of sorts with his captor who trades in pirated Hindi films.
